Sunday Sessions #8

Bit of a quickie this week, but I couldn’t go without reviewing this lovely IPA that I picked up at the Adnams shop in Stamford, Lincolnshire. I was up there visiting friends and quite literally stumbled upon it. It’s a wonderful shop and the staff are excellent….but, as per usual, I digress.

Lagunitas Brewing Company IPA 6.2%

I can’t lie, I was expecting to like this as me not enjoying an American IPA is a pretty rare occurrence. A golden copper with a small frothy white head (which stayed throughout my supping time), the standard citrusy scent of grapefruit came through on the nose, but this was joined by a fresh hit of lemon and a nutty toastiness. I’m definitely one for a bitter IPA and this certainly has a big hit of bitterness, only slightly dulled by a sweet maltiness. More sharp citrus fruits lead to a crisp finish.

If I hadn’t been on holiday I would have come back for a crate of this, honestly. It is PERFECT for the sunshine (that we will eventually get, I am promised). Better go and fire up the barbie…
