If you know me you’ll know that I love a bit of metal. I also love the Bee Gees, but we’ll leave that for another day. When Pistonhead offered to send me some of their Kustom Lager across, obviously I wasn’t going to turn them down: Beer? Check. Metal? Check.
If you like rock or metal then you’ll probably be familiar with Pistonhead. They’re those matte cans in the fridge behind the bar, ice cold and decorated with a flaming skull. Needless to say, they’re not trying to be subtle and that’s one of the things I like about Pistonhead; they’re not expecting you to sit there with your tulip glass procrastinating over the ‘mouthfeel’, they just want you to kick back, down some beer and have fun.

It pours a Bart Simpson yellow with a large white head. The aroma is pleasantly sweet and fruity. The taste surprised me by being more bitter than I’d anticipated, but the tart fruit comes through and there’s a darkness to it that I can only describe as ‘roasted’.
Ultimately, this is a beer that isn’t trying to be life changing. It’s fun, drinkable, metal-tastic and perfect for a session with friends. Well, if you like to share your beer that is.
